Popped into Lichfield recently and had some time to spare to tootled up to the cathedral for a look around.
It’s a magnificent building at every level. One that gets more and more interesting the closer you get to it as more and more detail comes into focus. There are numerous statues of people if you look closely you’ll even find them in the arches around the door. So much skill and patience involved in creating each one.
Like a lot of natural materials that are well chosen and looked after, stone just gets better with age. I do like this detail of leaf motifs – so tactile, voluptuous and full of movement and energy. Also full of spiders and other hibernating creatures – so good for the wild things too!
